Mangaluru/New York, July 25: Rai’s Super T and Rai’s Device, two golf-alignment aids developed by vascular surgeon, scientist, sportsman and inventor Dr Dinker B Rai, were formally launched at the Village Club of Lake Success in New York on Saturday.The launch brought together golfers, club members, professionals and members of the community for a presentation centred on improving accuracy and consistency in golf through a more objective approach to alignment. Alignment is one of the fundamental aspects of golf. Golfers generally identify their target and mentally visualise an imaginary line between the ball and the target before positioning their clubface, feet, shoulders and hips. Dr Rai’s inventions seek to make this otherwise imaginary alignment line visible and easier to reproduce.Rai’s Super T is designed as a directional golf tee for use on the course, while Rai’s Device is intended as a training and teaching aid at the driving range. Both use perpendicular directional and alignment limbs to help golfers establish the target line, square the clubface, align the body and develop a repeatable setup and swing path.A panel discussion formed a key part of the launch programme. Moderated by Rajiv Rudra of RR Golf Academy, the discussion featured Village Club Pro Robi Mistretta and Dr Rai, who spoke about the importance of alignment, the development of the inventions and their potential application for golfers, coaches and students.The programme also featured instructional and biographical videos demonstrating the use of the products. Professional golfers and experts, including Amandeep Jhol, former CEO of the Professional Golf Tour of India, Adam Laird of North Shore Country Club and Asian Games golf gold medallist Rishi Narain, shared their perspectives on the innovations.Guests had an opportunity to examine the products and interact with Dr Rai and the event team during the launch.The event was sponsored by Peter Kumar, president of Gullwing Motor Cars, Astoria, with support from the Village Club of Lake Success and its board. Dr Rai also acknowledged the guidance and encouragement extended by club professional Robi Mistretta during the development of the device.Dr Rai, who has more than five decades of experience as a vascular surgeon and medical educator, has also been associated with sports and was a former national-level cricketer. His golf inventions grew out of an effort to express alignment through simple geometric principles that can be seen, understood, taught and repeated.“The purpose is to make alignment visible, objective and repeatable—so the golfer can stand with confidence and concentrate on the swing,” Dr Rai said.The inventions are currently patent pending. Rai’s Super T is intended for use on the golf course, while Rai’s Device is positioned as a practice-range tool for golfers and instructors.

Mangalore, 7 August 2026: ‘Routledge’ has published and released ‘Untouchability in 21st Century India’, a pioneering new book by legal scholar Dr. Preethi Lolaksha Nagaveni, of Mangalore origin, offering a comprehensive legal and human rights analysis of the continued existence of untouchability in modern India.The book examines two of the most significant contemporary manifestations of untouchability—manual scavenging and caste-based discrimination in higher educational institutions. Challenging the widespread perception that untouchability belongs to India’s past, Dr. Preethi argues that the inhuman practice continues to exist in both visible and subtle forms despite constitutional guarantees and legislative safeguards. Drawing upon extensive doctrinal and socio-legal research, including interviews with a wide range of stakeholders, the author demonstrates that untouchability continues to affect both, the most deprived, economically marginalised sections of Dalit communities, particularly manual scavengers, as well as highly educated Dalit students and academics within institutions of higher education.The study is regarded as a rare and significant contribution to scholarship on caste discrimination. While numerous works have examined untouchability from sociological, political and historical perspectives, ‘Untouchability in 21st Century India’ is among the first book-length studies to analyse the subject primarily through the lens of international human rights law. The book argues that untouchability should not be viewed solely as a social, economic, political or cultural issue, but also as a legal one, exposing the limitations of existing legal mechanisms in eradicating the practice. Dr. Preethi’s wider academic and policy engagement has attracted international recognition. Her oral and written submissions have contributed to discussions before United Nations human rights mechanisms, the UK Parliament and the New Zealand Parliament. Among her notable interventions is an oral statement before a United Nations CEDAW highlighting the persistent human rights violations faced by manual scavengers, underscoring the global relevance of the issues explored in her latest publication. Her other interventions include advocating for the Persons With Disability, Women and Children. Her work has been cited by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, and Parliament Committees of House of Lords and House of Commons, UK.An accomplished legal academic, Dr. Preethi has authored 19 peer-reviewed journal articles and five peer-reviewed book chapters with internationally recognised publishers.
